Fish Curry Recipe
Ingredients:
- Fish: 500 grams (Rohu, King Fish, or any firm white fish, cut into pieces)
- Onion: 2 medium-sized (finely chopped)
- Tomato: 2 medium-sized (finely chopped)
- Ginger-Garlic Paste: 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Red Chili Powder: 1 teaspoon
- Coriander Powder: 1 teaspoon
- Cumin Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam Masala Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Tamarind Pulp: 2 tablespoons
- Coconut Milk: 1 cup (optional, for a richer taste)
- Mustard Seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry Leaves: 8-10
- Green Chilies: 2 (slit)
- Fresh Coriander Leaves: for garnishing
- Oil: 2 tablespoons
- Salt: to taste
Instructions:
Marinate the Fish:
- Rub the fish pieces with turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
- Set aside for 15-20 minutes.
Prepare the Curry:
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves and green chilies, and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and oil starts to separate.
- Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add tamarind pulp and coconut milk (if using), and mix well.
Cook the Fish:
- Add the marinated fish pieces to the curry and gently mix to coat them with the gravy.
- Cover and cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, until the fish is cooked through and the flavors are well absorbed.
Serve:
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
